Day one in Path of Exile 1 always feels a bit messy. Your boots are bad, your rings are worse, and somehow every upgrade costs more than you've got. That's why I don't treat rare gear as a pure drop chase. I watch what people are buying, what league starters are struggling with, and which crafting pieces move fast. Farm with a plan
Running random zones because they “feel lucky” is how you burn an evening and come away annoyed. Pick content your build clears quickly. If you're still levelling, go for dense areas where packs are close together and you don't waste time walking. Once you're mapping, favour layouts you can finish without backtracking. A weak build in a dangerous map is not efficient farming. It's just repairs, deaths, and lost rhythm. Speed matters more than pretending you can handle content that clearly isn't comfortable yet.



Know what actually sells
A lot of players vendor items that could've paid for their next upgrade. Early in a league, life, resistances, movement speed, and useful sockets sell because people need working gear, not perfect gear. Later on, the market shifts toward influenced bases, fractured mods, crafting materials, and niche build pieces. That cheap fragment or odd-looking base in your stash might be junk to you, but it could be exactly what someone else needs to finish a setup. Price checks are boring, yeah, but they save currency.



Don't waste every orb you find
Currency feels tempting when it starts stacking up. You think, “I'll just roll this one item a few times.” Then it's gone. Been there. The smarter move is to decide what your character truly needs first. Maybe it's capped resistances. Maybe it's spell suppression, a better weapon, or enough attributes to stop swapping rings every ten minutes. Spend on problems that block progress. Skip the tiny upgrades that look nice in town but don't help you clear faster or survive longer.



Trade when farming slows down
There's a point where grinding alone stops being heroic and starts being stubborn. If you've got tabs full of usable drops, turn them into buying power. Many players use trade tools or marketplaces, and services such as u4gm are often mentioned by players looking for game currency or item options when they want a quicker route through a rough patch. The best approach is still simple: farm content you can clear well, sell what your build doesn't need, and buy the pieces that let you push harder next session.
